The brief

What the store needed

The store had two connected migration requirements: move its Shopify Plus checkout away from checkout.liquid and move the existing GTM data flow to Shopify Customer Events. The same brief also included flash-sale messaging and cart-drawer upsells.

  • Replace the retiring checkout.liquid setup with Shopify checkout extensibility.
  • Move the existing tracking data flow from GTM to Shopify Customer Events as part of the checkout work.
  • Add flash-sale countdowns and cart upsells, alongside layout and branding adjustments.
The work

What I did

  1. I upgraded the Shopify Plus checkout from checkout.liquid to checkout extensibility.
  2. I migrated the existing GTM data flow to Shopify Customer Events. This was tracking migration work alongside the checkout upgrade, rather than just a storefront layout change.
  3. I added countdown flash sales in the announcement bar and enhanced the cart drawer to support upsell items.
  4. I resolved layout issues and fine-tuned branding elements.

Delivered scope

The delivered scope covered the checkout extensibility upgrade, the GTM-to-Customer Events migration, announcement-bar countdowns, cart-drawer upsells and layout refinements. The client's original review of this work is included below.
