Why the Philippines

Why store owners hire Shopify developers from the Philippines

More and more Shopify store owners in Australia, the United States, Canada, the UK and Europe work with developers from the Philippines. The reasons are practical:

Affordable without cutting corners.

You get experienced Shopify work at a rate that's easier on your budget than a local agency, so you can spend more on growing your store.

English is our second language.

English is used in schools, business and government in the Philippines, so communication is clear, written and spoken.

Time zones that work for you.

Australian clients get same-day replies during their working hours. For US, Canadian and European clients, work gets done while you sleep and is ready to review in your morning.

A strong tech and outsourcing culture.

The Philippines has worked with international businesses for decades, and remote work with overseas clients is something we're used to.

But not every developer is the right fit. What matters most is experience with the Shopify platform itself, and proof that the work gets done properly.

Upwork project: On-going development for shopify store

Philip is the man! Such an amazing developer and a real asset to our Shopify site and whole team. We are very glad we found him and ditched our expensive agency.

My story

My story: from doubting I could reach international clients to working with 10 countries

Philip Diaz, Shopify developer in Cebu City, Philippines, at his workstation

Before Upwork, I honestly believed it would be very hard to work with international clients. There's a lot of competition, and I didn't know which platforms were worth joining.

I first tried Upwork in 2017, and it didn't work out. In 2022, I tried again, and this time I got in. That's when I saw how many store owners around the world were looking for a Shopify developer from the Philippines: someone affordable, who communicates clearly in English, and who really knows the Shopify platform.

Since then, I've completed 161 jobs on Upwork, earned a 4.9 rating and Top Rated status, and worked with clients in Australia, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Romania and Mexico.

I built this website so store owners who don't use Upwork, or who found me some other way, can see my work and reach me too. If you're looking for an affordable Shopify developer who is also an expert on the platform, you're in the right place.

Experience

Experience you can check

I've been a developer since 2003, and I've worked with Shopify since 2017:

  1. 2003 – 2010

Software developer (VB6, .NET, ASP.NET, MS SQL)

  2. 2010 – 2017

    WordPress & WooCommerce developer

  3. 2017 – 2022

Freelance Shopify & WooCommerce developer (OnlineJobs.ph)

I worked directly with clients through OnlineJobs.ph on a wide range of WordPress/WooCommerce and Shopify projects: store builds, theme customization, migrations, bug fixes and ongoing maintenance.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why hire a Shopify developer from the Philippines?

You get experienced Shopify work at an affordable rate, clear communication in English, and working hours that suit Australian clients during the day and US, Canadian and European clients overnight. The key is choosing a developer with real Shopify experience and verified reviews.

Do I need to hire you through Upwork?

Yes, for now all projects go through Upwork. If you don't have an account yet, signing up as a client is free. Upwork handles the contract and payments, with payment protection for both of us.

How do we communicate?

Through Upwork messages, and Slack or video calls when needed. I reply during my working hours (6 AM to 5 PM Philippine time, Sunday to Friday).

Is it safe to give you access to my store?

Yes. I only need collaborator access, which you approve and can remove at any time. I don't need your password, and I work on a duplicate of your theme, so your live store isn't affected until you approve the changes.

How much does it cost?

It depends on what your store needs. I quote each project based on your requirements. Message me on Upwork with your store URL and what you need, and I'll reply with an estimate and timeline.

Can you work with me long-term?

Yes. Many of my clients work with me on an ongoing basis for new features, fixes and improvements. Several of my reviews come from long-term contracts.
